SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 490
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Believers Academy Girls Basketball Team for winning the 2003 Class A state championship title for the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools; and WHEREAS, The victory over Duncanville Christway netted the Lady Soldiers their second state championship; last year the team defeated Conroe Covenant to take home the state trophy as the top Class A team; and WHEREAS, In top form during the March 1, 2003, state match in Houston, the Lady Soldiers defeated the Duncanville Christway team 52-36 and held on to their state crown; and WHEREAS, These outstanding athletes have demonstrated awesome talent and perseverance; they ended the season with a 22-7 record; the team players, Amie Cottingham, Abby Moffet, Stevie Sanford, Jessica Armstrong, Krista Valasquez, Rebecca Wilke, Roxanne Vargus, Crystal Cooper, Emily Johnson, Karen Goforth, Jackie Lee, and their coach deserve to be proud of their efforts and outstanding performance; and WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of Coach Randy Cottingham, the Lady Soldiers have played with dedication and tenacity throughout the season; and WHEREAS, The Believers Academy and the City of San Antonio take great pride in the Lady Soldiers and salute them for their exceptional skills and for practicing the highest ideals of sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend the Lady Soldiers for their athletic prowess and congratulate them on their recent victory; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
