SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 492
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Second Annual Obowu National Convention, which is
being held in Houston from May 23 through May 25, 2003, at the
Arab American Cultural and Community Center; and
WHEREAS, Thousands of Obowians from around the world are
coming together to celebrate their common values and heritage;
participants include policymakers from the government of
Nigeria, religious and world leaders, and representatives from
organizations, colleges, and the African and American business
sector, along with their guests, family members, and friends; and
WHEREAS, The Obowu Development Union, Incorporated, is an
international organization formed to mobilize all the sons,
daughters, and friends of Obowu, Imo State, Nigeria; some of the
goals of the union are to strengthen cultural heritage, to render
humanitarian assistance, and to encourage community development
and growth; and
WHEREAS, In keeping with these goals, the theme for the
2003 convention is "Enhance the Quality of Life, Economic and
Community Development and Cultural Heritage"; and
WHEREAS, Obowu Family Union, Incorporated, the local
chapter of the organization, plans to feature the many attractions
of the City of Houston throughout this commemorative event; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes for a successful
and memorable Second Annual Obowu National Convention; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the participants of this gathering as an expression of esteem
from the Texas Senate.
