SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 493
In Memory
of
Mable Bryant
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Mable Bryant, who died March 3, 2003,
at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, Mable Earlee Griffin was born to Emma Tennon and
Leroy Griffin on February 25, 1918, in Lavaca County; she was
raised in El Campo and later moved to Houston, where she met and
married Milton Bryant, with whom she enjoyed a happy marriage for
over 50 years; the couple was blessed with two daughters; and
WHEREAS, A loving wife, a nurturing mother to her children
and stepchildren, a devoted grandmother, and a loving sister and
aunt, Mable made her family the center of her life; and
WHEREAS, Mable Bryant was also known as a woman of great
generosity and kindness; her warmth touched the lives of all who
came in contact with her, and she welcomed everyone into her
home, especially to her dinner table; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mable was a loyal and faithful
member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where her husband was an
associate minister; she sang in the choir and assisted the church
in many other ways; and
WHEREAS, Mable leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Mable Bryant: her children and stepchildren,
Annamarie Bryant Evans, Emma Faye Bryant Marbley, Sharon Bryant
and Calvin Littlejohn, Carl and Frankie Johnson, and
Dell and Tony Smart; her brother, Alvin Brown; her eleven
grandchildren; her eleven great-grandchildren; and her many
other beloved family members; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
in memory of Mable Bryant.
