SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 498

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Dan Hejl for his outstanding contributions as a Good 
Samaritan in the community; and
	WHEREAS, Dan consistently donates his time, money, and 
energy to assist those in need; and
	WHEREAS, Dan Hejl, of the Austin engineering firm of Hejl, 
Lee and Associates, always goes beyond contractual obligations in 
carrying out engineering projects; together with other members of 
the company, he has helped meet the needs of many small 
communities; and
	WHEREAS, Dan and his firm provided free surveying services 
to families of Saint John's Colony, a small black community in 
Caldwell County that dates back to the days of slavery; he helped 
families establish legal ownership of their property and become 
eligible for housing rehabilitation funding; and
	WHEREAS, In 2002, Dan came to the aid of a Del Valle family 
whose mobile home lacked sewage facilities; the situation had 
forced the parents to place their children in foster care; by 
contributing a great deal of money and time to install a septic 
system, this caring citizen enabled the family to be reunited; 
and
	WHEREAS, Dan Hejl's concern for others is inspirational, 
and he has made our world a better place because of his personal 
acts of kindness; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, hereby commend Dan Hejl for his selfless efforts
to help his fellowman during times of hardship and extend to him 
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
