SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 500
In Memory
of
Kurt A.J. Monier
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Kurt A.J. Monier,
who died March 7, 2003, at the age of 88; and
WHEREAS, Kurt Monier earned a bachelor's degree in
mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University in 1935 and
served with the United States Army Corps of Engineers during
World War II; he served also during the Korean War and retired
as a colonel in the Army Reserve; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Monier was associated with the mechanical
contracting firm of A.J. Monier & Company, Incorporated; he
became manager of the partnership and president of the corporation
in 1946 and assumed the position of chairman of the board in 1977;
and
WHEREAS, A highly regarded leader in his field, Kurt Monier
was a life member and a Fellow of the American Society of Heating,
Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers and was past
president of the local chapter; he had also served as president
of the Builders Exchange of Texas, the Mechanical Contractors
Association of America, the National Environmental Balancing
Bureau, the Associated Plumbing and Heating Contractors of
San Antonio, and several other professional organizations; in
1969, he was named Engineer of the Year by the Bexar Chapter of
the Texas Society of Professional Engineers; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Mr. Monier was respected
in the community for his involvement with numerous civic,
charitable, and fraternal groups, including the Masons, Kiwanis
Club, and Good Government League; he was past president of the
board of trustees of Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital and
chairman of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Monier was a member of
Trinity Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and as
a warden; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Kurt Monier gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his
wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by
those who knew him; and
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Kurt A.J. Monier: his wife, Ann B. Monier;
his daughter, Martha Monier Steves; his son, William Kurt Monier,
and his wife, Phyllis; his grandchildren, Albert Steves V,
Frances Steves Calgaard, Kurt Monier Steves, and Wesley Shay Monier;
and his three great-grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Kurt A.J. Monier.
