SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 509

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
pay tribute to Irie Cooksey McKinley on the grand occasion of 
her 90th birthday; and

	WHEREAS, A gracious lady who is well known for her charm 
and generosity of spirit, Irie McKinley is a revered resident 
of Dallas; and

	WHEREAS, Irie was born April 30, 1913 in Longview to 
Allen P. and Minnie E. Cooksey; she married William McKinley, 
and the couple raised nine children; and

	WHEREAS, She previously worked for the Urban League and 
has worked for Head Start of Greater Dallas since 1984; she has 
been recognized with several awards for her outstanding service 
to Head Start; and

	WHEREAS, Irie has been an active member of Saint John 
Baptist Church for 59 years; and

	WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community, 
Irie is noted for her courage, her compassion for others, and her 
enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be 
it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, hereby recognize Irie Cooksey McKinley as a 
treasured citizen of Dallas and the State of Texas; and, 
be it further

	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as a memento of this special day.
