SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 569
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Beth Miller, who was awarded the silver medal at the 2002 Chelsea Flower Show for "Clearwater," her ecologically sustainable garden; and WHEREAS, Beth Miller was a first time entrant in the international competition that has been hosted annually in London since 1913 by the Royal Horticultural Society; her Clearwater garden was honored for demonstrating how water can be cleaned and reused in an aesthetically appealing way; and WHEREAS, Clearwater combines the use of "gray" water previously used for sinks, baths, showers, and domestic appliances with rainfall collected from the pavilion roof to provide water for the garden; photovoltaic cells are used to capture the sun's energy and to provide power to pump water through reed beds; the garden also includes multi-stemmed willow and hazel that can be harvested for screens or used as a sustainable fuel source; and WHEREAS, Clearwater will be reconstructed outside of London as a model of an aesthetically appealing water reclamation project; and WHEREAS, Beth Miller's innovative use of recycled and natural energy resources to create and maintain gardens is truly inspiring; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Beth Miller for her unique vision and beautifully designed Clearwater garden and congratulate her on the prestigious honor she was awarded; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
