SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 592
In Memory
of
Paul J. Mascot
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Austin in mourning the loss of Colonel Paul J. Mascot, who died
March 26, 2003, at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, Paul Mascot was born on June 1, 1920, in
Los Angeles, California; he attended the University of
California at Los Angeles before enlisting in the United States
Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet Program in 1941; and
WHEREAS, Colonel Mascot served with distinction in a
variety of flying, staff, and command positions throughout the
world and received numerous commendations, including two Legion
of Merit awards, five Air Medals, Command Pilot wings, and the
Distinguished Flying Cross; and
WHEREAS, The high point of his career was his service in
Vietnam flying C-7A Caribou transports as commander of the 483rd
Tactical Airlift Wing during 1966 and 1967; after he retired from
the Air Force in 1971, he moved to Austin, where he became active
in community affairs; and
WHEREAS, Paul served on the Travis County Grand Jury
and was a longtime member of the Travis County Grand Jury
Association; he served for many years as an election judge and
Republican Party precinct chairman and was a member of the Order
of Daedalians, the Hump Pilots Association, the Caribou
Association, and the Retired Officers Association; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen and distinguished retired
military officer, Paul was respected in the community for his
many accomplishments; he was a member of Saint Thomas More parish
in Austin and a member of the board of directors of the Balcones
Country Club Association; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Paul gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew him; and
WHEREAS, Paul was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to
the bereaved family of Paul J. Mascot: his wife of 58 years,
Virginia Mascot; his sons and daughters-in-law, Paul, Becky,
Tom, and Patti; his brother, Tim; and his two grandchildren; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Paul J. Mascot.
