SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 604
In Memory
of
Lucian Adams
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Lucian Adams, who died March 31, 2003, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Lucian Adams was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on October 26, 1922; he joined the United States Army in 1943 during World War II and earned a Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on a battlefield in France; he was a staff sergeant and a member of the 30th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division; and WHEREAS, After he was discharged in 1945, he began a 40-year career with the Department of Veterans Affairs in San Antonio as a benefits counselor; he later worked for United States Representative Frank Tejeda as a veterans affairs consultant; and WHEREAS, The state honored Mr. Adams by naming Interstate 37 from Interstate 10 to Loop 410 the Lucian Adams Freeway, and his heroism was recounted in the History Channel documentary, "Hispanics and the Medal of Honor"; he was one of 39 Hispanics to receive the medal; and WHEREAS, Lucian was well known for his patriotism and his devotion to his family, his community, and the veterans he served; a man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and WHEREAS, Lucian Adams lived his life to the fullest and was a devoted father and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Lucian Adams: his daughters, Grace Adams Fawcett and Rose Adams; his son, Lucian Adams, Jr.; his brothers, Roy Culver, Albert Culver, and Lawrence Culver; his sisters, Beatrice Culver, Juanita Culver, and Estelle Maltos; and his two grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lucian Adams.
