SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 611
WHEREAS, The University of Texas School of Law established the Guanajuato Exchange Program in 1967 to be an academic and cultural exchange with students attending the University of Guanajuato in Mexico; and WHEREAS, During spring break each year, a group of law students from The University of Texas School of Law visits the beautiful City of Guanajuato; the students stay in the homes of local students, attend lectures on Mexican law, tour the city, and experience heartwarming hospitality; and WHEREAS, The colorful history and rich association of Texans and their neighbors to the south has been characterized by the sharing of their cultural and legal ties; and WHEREAS, For the past 36 years, the exchange program between these two fine universities has presented a unique opportunity for their students to become familiar with the legal systems of another country; and WHEREAS, The exchange program provides a basis for enhanced understanding of the economic, political, and social relationships that exist between the United States and Mexico; and WHEREAS, Students from the University of Guanajuato School of Law in Mexico will be visiting the Texas Legislature on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, and to commemorate the 36th anniversary of the program, a Capitol Day has been scheduled; the Texas Senate is especially proud to welcome the following visitors to the Lone Star State: Claudia Ibet Amezcua Rodríguez, María del Carmen Alvarado Mendez, Jorge Aguayo Aguilar, Sergio Ojeda Cano, Salvador Mata Matehuala, Víctor Hugo Tolentino Vázquez, Claudia Rafaela Baeza García, Luz del Carmen Garcia Gutiérrez, Alexandra Delgado Arias, Diana Ivette Calderón Romero, and Karen Elizabeth Ramírez Bustamante; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby declare these distinguished citizens of Mexico to be honorary citizens of Texas with all attendant rights and privileges thereof; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the visiting delegation of the Guanajuato Exchange Program as a memento of their participation in this important cultural exchange.
