SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 629
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to pay tribute to Charley Porter "C.P." Pettis on the grand
occasion of his 87th birthday; and
WHEREAS, C.P. Pettis was born April 14, 1916, in
Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Elizabeth "Lizzie" Brunson
and Samuel Alexander Pettis; he spent his early years in
Jasper, Texas, which is where he met and married Osha B. Reed;
and
WHEREAS, C.P. moved with his wife to Beaumont, where he
became a professional barber and his wife became a beautician;
the couple later moved to the Texas Gulf Coast where they
raised their family; C.P. worked for the Port of Galveston as a
longshoreman for 38 years, while continuing to own and operate a
barber and beauty shop with his wife; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, C.P. is noted for his many
kind acts to his family, his church family, and his friends;
he is the father of eight children and has been blessed with
15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, A respected member of his community, C.P. is noted
for his courage, his compassion for others, and his enthusiasm
for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby congratulate Charley Porter Pettis on
the joyful occasion of his 87th birthday and extend best wishes
to him for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as a memento of this special day.
