SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 632
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Shoshana N. Johnson for her valor while serving her
country in Iraq and her tenacity and courage as a prisoner of war;
and
WHEREAS, Army Specialist Shoshana Johnson graduated in
1991 from Andress High School in El Paso, where she was a member
of the Reserve Officers Training Corps and the drill team; and
WHEREAS, Shoshana is a specialist with the United States
Army's 507th Maintenance Company at Fort Bliss in El Paso; she
is also the proud mother of Janelle, who is two years old; and
WHEREAS, She has a great love of cooking and especially
enjoys baking and making chicken enchiladas; she looks forward
to a career as a chef following her military service; and
WHEREAS, Shoshana was deployed to Iraq, where she prepared
meals for soldiers during Operation Iraqi Freedom; she and 15
other members of the 507th Maintenance Company were ambushed by
Iraqi forces near An Nasiriyah, Iraq; nine of the soldiers were
killed, and Shoshana and six others were taken prisoner; she was
wounded in both legs by a single bullet during the capture; and
WHEREAS, A fine young soldier, Shoshana endured three weeks
of captivity with bravery and resiliency, and on April 13, 2003,
three weeks after being captured, Shoshana and her six fellow
prisoners of war were rescued by American forces; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Shoshana N. Johnson for her
exemplary service to her country and for setting an example of
great courage in the face of grave danger; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
