SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 633

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased 
to recognize the Val Verde Correctional Facility in Del Rio 
for achieving accreditation by the National Commission on 
Correctional Health Care on February 21, 2003; and

	WHEREAS, Fewer than five percent of correctional 
facilities nationally are able to achieve this accreditation; 
and

	WHEREAS, The Val Verde Correctional Facility opened 
January 15, 2001, and Sheriff A. D'Wayne Jernigan directed its 
management, Wackenhut Corrections Corporation, to begin work 
immediately toward accreditation; and

	WHEREAS, Through the cooperation of Wackenhut 
management, Warden John Campbell, the excellent medical 
staff led by Health Services Administrator Teresa Kesteloot, 
and Sheriff A. D'Wayne Jernigan, the facility met the strict 
compliance requirements of the national commission to receive 
its accreditation; and

	WHEREAS, All who were involved in this effort deserve 
recognition for their dedication and hard work, as well as 
congratulations, for accomplishing this task in just 27 months; 
now, therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Val Verde 
Correctional Facility community for their expeditious 
compliance with the National Commission on Correctional Health 
Care Standards for Health Services in Jails; and, be it further

	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 
expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
