SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 639
In Memory
of
Harry Fish
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Harry "Alex" Fish, who died
February 25, 2003, at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, Alex was born May 29, 1917, in Amory, Mississippi,
and graduated in 1939 from Rice University, where he was the Rice
Owl Band drum major for four years and performed in the Cotton
Bowl twice; and
WHEREAS, He served with distinction during World War II;
the lead navigator of his B-29 squadron based in Guam, he flew
numerous combat missions over Japan and earned the Air Medal with
two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and a
Presidential Citation; and
WHEREAS, After his military service, he moved with his
wife, Margaret, to Boerne, where he worked in the automobile
industry for over 30 years; he owned and operated Boerne Motor
Company, the Ford dealership, for over 20 years, and was a
longtime independent oil operator; and
WHEREAS, A highly respected civic, business, and church
leader, Alex was well known in the Boerne community for his many
accomplishments and received numerous citations over the years
for his exemplary work; one of his proudest honors was his
designation as the Masonic Order's Citizen of the Year in 1999
as a nonmember community builder; and
WHEREAS, He was the voice of the Boerne Greyhound football
team, announcing all home games and some road games for 25 years;
as president of the Boerne Lions Club, he was instrumental in
obtaining the first lighting for the football stadium; and
WHEREAS, Alex served on the Boerne Independent School
District Board, the Boerne Public Library Board, and the Kendall
County Water Board; he was director of the Guadalupe-Blanco River
Authority for six years and past president of the Boerne Chamber
of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth,
and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him;
and
WHEREAS, Alex Fish lived his life to the fullest and was a
devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind
memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to
the bereaved family of Harry Fish: his wife of 62 years,
Margaret Fish; his son, John Fish, and his wife, Kelli; his
daughter, Margaret Davies, and her husband, Robert; his
grandchildren, Beth, Jessica, Jeremy, and Devon Davies and
Scott and Mark Roach; his great-grandson, Drew Davies; and his
sister-in-law, Marie Boerner, and her son, William; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Harry Fish.
