SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 640
In Memory
of
William George Berchelmann
	WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of San Antonio 
in mourning the loss of William George "Bill" Berchelmann, who 
died March 7, 2003, at the age of 51; and
	WHEREAS, Bill was born in San Antonio on May 10, 1951, to 
Mary Louise Staak Berchelmann and Dr. August George Berchelmann; 
he graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and earned 
his doctorate of jurisprudence degree from Saint Mary's 
University School of Law; and
	WHEREAS, A man who always found the good in the world,
Bill had the ability to lift everyone's spirits with his positive 
attitude; a mentor and a friend to many in the community, he was 
never too busy to come to the assistance of others; and
	WHEREAS, He was known as a man who could make others laugh 
in the face of adversity, and the valor he showed throughout his 
life was an inspiration to all who knew him; and
	WHEREAS, Bill participated in numerous professional 
organizations, including the San Antonio Bar association and the 
Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association; he also served his 
community as a member of the Board of Directors of the South Texas 
Blood and Tissue Center and Vital Alliance; and
	WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, 
Bill gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, 
warmth, and sense of humor will not be forgotten by those who
knew him; and
	WHEREAS, Bill Berchelmann was a devoted husband and 
father, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured 
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of William George Berchelmann:  his wife,
Ellen Berchelmann; his daughters, Melanie, Natalie, and
Courtney Berchelmann; his stepsons, Chad and Kurt Lindig; his 
brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Jan Berchelmann, Jimmy 
and Claire Berchelmann, and Stephen Berchelmann; his sisters
and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Phil Davis, Christine and 
Gerald Mann, Katie and Merle Gothard, and Johanna and 
Terry McDonald; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy 
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this 
day, it do so in memory of William George Berchelmann.
