SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 644
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Leslie K. Bedford Memorial Foundation on the
occasion of its Seventh Annual Charity and Awards Banquet, which
is being held in Dallas on May 30, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Phyllis and George Bedford founded the private,
nonprofit organization in 1994 in memory of their daughter and to
cultivate her legacy and generous spirit by providing Building
Block opportunities for girls and young women between the ages of
10 and 25; and
WHEREAS, The foundation provides a safe, nurturing
environment to foster growth and development in young women and
help them to maximize their potential as leaders and productive
citizens in society; and
WHEREAS, In the first Building Block program for girls in
the fourth to sixth grades, girls are taught methods to be used
for fitting in with others, building self esteem and self
confidence, developing social skills, and discovering their
creativity; and
WHEREAS, The second Building Block program for young women
in the seventh to ninth grades focuses on self-realization,
building social skills, developing an appreciation of their own
talents and individuality, and promoting good life decisions;
and
WHEREAS, The foundation is honoring graduates of its
Building Block programs at the banquet on May 30 in the 2003
Parade of Leaders; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend the Leslie K. Bedford Memorial
Foundation for its worthy goals and its invaluable contributions
to the young women of our state; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
all associated with this foundation as an expression of high
regard from the Texas Senate.
