SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 646
In Memory
of
Harry Curtis Weeks, Jr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Austin and Mexico in mourning the loss of Harry Curtis Weeks, Jr., who died March 30, 2003, at the age of 72; and WHEREAS, Curtis Weeks was born in Fort Worth on July 7, 1930, to Harry Curtis Weeks, Sr., and Ethel Gill Weeks; he attended The University of Texas at Austin and received his degree from the University of the Americas in Mexico City, where he met his wife, Christina; the couple lived in Mexico City, Austin, and San Miguel de Allende; and WHEREAS, Curtis was a man of many interests and talents; his love for culture and travel took him around the world, and he had a keen love of Mexico, where he was a codirector of Televisa in Mexico City; and WHEREAS, In the 1970s, he was appointed Civil Service Police and Fire Department commissioner in Austin, fulfilling his lifelong fascination with law enforcement; in the 1980s, he created the position of sheriff's spokesman and was known as Travis County's public information officer for 12 years; and WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Curtis was admired and respected in the community for his many accomplishments, his love of music, his love of life, and his great sense of humor; and WHEREAS, He was a man of integrity, strength, and generosity who gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Harry Curtis Weeks, Jr.: his wife of 48 years, Christina Weeks; his sons, Harry and Louis; his daughter, Tina, and her husband, Larry Wallace; his eight grandchildren; and his extended family in Mexico; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Harry Curtis Weeks, Jr. Barrientos ________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on April 22, 2003, by a rising vote. ________________________________ Secretary of the Senate ________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
