SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 649
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dwight Boykins on his selection as a 2003 Minority Achiever by the Young Men's Christian Association of Greater Houston; and WHEREAS, Dwight received his award at the organization's 2003 Awards Gala on March 21, 2003; an Achiever is one who is highly dedicated to his or her field and has ascended the ladder of opportunity by demonstrating abilities and skills in leadership, management, and supervision; and WHEREAS, Dwight Boykins is assistant vice president of governmental affairs and community relations at his alma mater, Texas Southern University; he began his professional career in banking before venturing into the profession he perceives as the most rewarding of all--higher education; and WHEREAS, Dwight was promoted to his present position in September of 2000; he is credited with positioning the university to receive its first ever federal appropriation from Washington, D.C., and with working with the 77th Legislature to assure Texas Southern University received appropriations to restore programs and to bring a record amount of scholarship dollars to the university; and WHEREAS, Dwight works with a number of civic, charitable, and professional associations; he is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and he has been married for 14 years to his lovely wife, Genora Boykins; and WHEREAS, A distinguished professional and an exemplary citizen, Dwight Boykins is an excellent role model and a source of strength and encouragement to others, and his many accomplishments reflect his skill and leadership; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Dwight Boykins on his exceptional achievements and his many contributions to his community and extend congratulations to him for earning the 2003 Minority Achiever award from the Young Men's Christian Association of Greater Houston; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
