SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 671
In Memory
of
Louise Nivison
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Louise "Mimi" Nivison,
who died April 12, 2003, at the age of 83; and
WHEREAS, Mimi was born December 13, 1919, in Rusk, Texas,
to Truman and Lottie Matheson; she was married to the late
Ted Nivison and worked for the City of Austin Parks and
Recreation Department as an administrative secretary to four
consecutive executive directors; and
WHEREAS, Upon her retirement in 1985, she was named by the
Austin City Council to the city's Parks and Recreation Board;
when she retired from the board, she served as a member emeritus;
and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Nivison was a member of the team that planned
the projects of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s that resulted in much
of the beauty of Austin today; she was involved in the Town Lake
Beautification Project, the Hike and Bike Trails project, and the
greenbelt acquisition and development; and
WHEREAS, As a board member, she was a staunch protector of
Town Lake and Lake Austin and was greatly responsible for the
preservation of many of Austin's parks; her contributions to the
quality of life in Austin are immeasurable and will live on as her
legacy for years to come; and
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Mrs. Nivison gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her
wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those
who knew her; and
WHEREAS, Mimi Nivison lived her life to the fullest and was
a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves behind
memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Louise Nivison: her daughters and son-in-law
Rochelle Pemberton and Janelle and Steve McCann; her four
grandchildren, Tracey Ulrich, Dyana Herrera, Misty Dickerson,
and Tony Barnette; and her six great-grandchildren; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
do so in memory of Louise Nivison.
