SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 672
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Keith Evans Jerden on the occasion of his retirement after 40 years of outstanding service to the Grand Prairie Independent School District; and WHEREAS, Keith Jerden earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from North Texas State University; and WHEREAS, The descendant of a family of educators, Keith had an early and natural affinity to follow in his predecessors' footsteps; after the completion of active service with the United States Naval Air Reserve, Keith began his long career with the Grand Prairie Independent School District as a teacher at Florence Hill Elementary School in September of 1963; and WHEREAS, Over the years, Keith has been dedicated to his work in the field of education and to the philosophy that schooling is not a means to an end but is rather the beginning of a long journey to the future, and countless Grand Prairie students have been the beneficiaries of his vision; and WHEREAS, As an educator, he found his work with special needs students to be one of the most rewarding aspects of his career, and he took great joy in watching those students grow in strength and knowledge; and WHEREAS, Keith brought the wealth of knowledge and expertise he gained in the classroom to his position as an educational administrator; he has served the Grand Prairie Independent School District as a principal for 23 years and is currently retiring from his position as principal of Sallye Moore Elementary School; and WHEREAS, He has participated in the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association, and he is a life member of the Texas State Teachers Association; and WHEREAS, Keith Jerden has also worked for the betterment of his community by volunteering his time and energy to the Young Men's Christian Association and to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts organizations; and WHEREAS, A man who has dedicated his life to the education of children, Keith has long held the respect and admiration of his colleagues; on April 30, 2003, his fellow educators will gather to honor him and to recall his superior service to the Grand Prairie Independent School District; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Keith Jerden for his invaluable contributions to the Grand Prairie Independent School District and extend best wishes to him for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
