SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 677
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize April 30, 2003, as El Día de los Niños: Celebrating
Young Americans; and
WHEREAS, Many nations throughout the world annually
observe El Día de los Niños on April 30; in the United States, the
National Latino Children's Institute has worked with communities
across the country to bring Latinos and other ethnic communities
together to honor and uplift children on this day by declaring it
El Día de los Niños: Celebrating Young Americans; and
WHEREAS, The children of the State of Texas are our
greatest treasure, for they are the heart of our people and the
center of our families; and
WHEREAS, El Día de los Niños: Celebrating Young Americans
provides children in our state the opportunity to articulate
their dreams and aspirations, and it encourages all residents to
promote the curiosity, laughter, faith, energy, and spirit that
children possess; and
WHEREAS, The Hispanic people, the youngest and fastest
growing ethnic community in Texas, have a strong tradition of
honoring their children on this special day and wish to share
this custom with their fellow Texans; and
WHEREAS, On April 30, communities across the state will
host family-based literacy and educational activities that are
positive and uplifting and that help children to express their
dreams and hopes for the future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby encourage all Texans to observe
April 30, 2003, as El Día de los Niños: Celebrating Young
Americans; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this special day.
