SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 684
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join the citizens of Cedar Hill in recognizing Texas Boy Scouts
of America Troop 520 for its 60 years of outstanding service to
the community; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America is an institution that
helps boys and young adults to build character, good citizenship,
and to develop personal fitness; and
WHEREAS, In keeping with the Boy Scout tradition of helping
other people at all times, members of Troop 520 have made many
contributions to the Cedar Hill community, and a celebration of
the troop's 60 years of service is being held May 6, 2003; and
WHEREAS, The numerous projects the Scouts have undertaken
include building benches in a church garden and playground area,
landscaping city parks and elementary school grounds, and
participating in a Scouting for Food Campaign that replenishes
North Texas food banks; and
WHEREAS, Each year troop members participate in Scout Sunday
at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Hill, where the Scouts
greet congregants, pass out programs, read scripture, and
participate in a flag ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Today, under the leadership of Scoutmaster
Mike King, members of Boy Scout Troop 520 not only learn a
great deal but continue the Scout tradition of diligently and
generously giving back to the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend the members and leaders of
Boy Scouts of America Troop 520 in Cedar Hill for the many
contributions they have made to their community and extend
congratulations to them on their Troop's 60th anniversary;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Troop 520 as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
