SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 688
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Downtown McKinney Association and the downtown property owners on the occasion of "The Best Little BBQ Fest in Texas"; and WHEREAS, The event will be held in McKinney on October 18 and 19, 2003; the first sanctioned pork championship competition in our state, the event has earned the title of the "Official Pork BBQ Championship in Texas"; and WHEREAS, The festival will benefit the Mike Modano Foundation; a member of the Dallas Stars hockey team, Mike Modano is building a house for at-risk infants and toddlers at the new Jonathan's Place complex in Garland; and WHEREAS, Since the "Best Little BBQ Fest in Texas" is a sanctioned pork championship competition, winners at the event qualify for the Memphis in May World Barbecue Championship to be held in the spring of 2004; and WHEREAS, Barbecue holds a revered place in Texas cuisine, and the McKinney fest will bring together a host of talented cooks who will prepare a number of barbecue delicacies; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend the Downtown McKinney Association and the downtown property owners for hosting this first-rate competition and extend best wishes for a successful "Best Little BBQ Fest in Texas"; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this event.
