SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 694
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the members of the Jack Yates Senior High School
Class of 1953 on the occasion of their 50th class reunion; and
WHEREAS, Alumni, friends, and guests will gather at the
Westin Galleria and Westin Oaks in Houston on June 21, 2003, to
recall their fondest memories and most treasured moments of their
days at Jack Yates Senior High School; and
WHEREAS, Jack Yates Senior High School was the second black
high school to be established in the City of Houston; it opened on
February 8, 1926, with 17 teachers and 600 students; over the
years, this institution has been a major force in the Third Ward,
offering students an educational program that provides a
foundation for becoming exemplary and productive citizens; and
WHEREAS, The alumni of the Class of 1953 will celebrate
their many individual accomplishments since their high school
graduation, while also proudly reflecting on their alma mater's
legacy of excellence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Class of 1953
of Jack Yates Senior High School on their achievements and extend
best wishes to them for a jubilant and memorable reunion; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
memento of this special occasion.
