SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 698

	WHEREAS, It is appropriate that the Texas Senate recognize 
longtime employees for their state service; and
	WHEREAS, One of these employees was Katherine Staat, who 
served in the Senate Media Department for 26 and one-half years; 
during that time, she witnessed many technological advancements 
within the department, including the use of the Internet, and an 
increase in the department's responsibilities; and
	WHEREAS, Katherine Staat began her employment with the 
Texas Senate on January 24, 1974, as a Clerk III in the Senate 
Media Department and, with a short break in service, she was with 
the department until August 1, 2001; and
	WHEREAS, After being named a Lab Technician II on March 1, 1977,
Katherine went on to become a Photographer and Information Media 
Coordinator, gaining a thorough knowledge of all aspects of Media 
Services; and
	WHEREAS, On January 1, 1986, Katherine was appointed 
Director of Media Services; among her duties, she was responsible 
for overseeing the maintenance and operation of the audio, video, 
and taping systems in the Senate chamber and committee rooms;
the production of daily radio shows and weekly newsletters, in 
English and Spanish, during regular and special sessions; and the 
photographing of senators and Senate floor action during 
legislative sessions; and
	WHEREAS, Throughout the legislature, Senate Media Services 
has maintained a reputation for hard work, creativity, and talent; 
now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby recognize Katherine Staat for her
26 and one-half years with Senate Media Services and extend best 
wishes to her in her future endeavors; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as a memento of her legislative service.
