SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 715

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Demetria Flowers, who was recently honored for her 
selection as Channelview Independent School District Student of 
the Month for March of 2003 by the North Channel Area Chamber of 
Commerce; and
	WHEREAS, Demetria is an outstanding student at Channelview 
High School, where she is a member of the student council and 
captain of the girls' varsity basketball team, which this year 
won bi-district and area championships; and
	WHEREAS, In addition to her work in student government and 
athletics, Demetria is a member of the chess club; she has also 
been selected a national youth achiever and a member of Who's Who 
Among American High School Students; she hopes to attend Houston 
Baptist University and to pursue a career in internal medicine; 
and
	WHEREAS, Demetria is guided by the philosophy that "to get 
something out of life, you have to give something," and she is an 
example to others through her own commitment to her fellowman, 
contributing to the betterment of her community by volunteering 
at local hospitals and libraries; and
	WHEREAS, A young woman who consistently meets the high 
standards she sets for herself, Demetria has brought great credit 
to herself, her school, and her community; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Demetria Flowers for her many 
accomplishments and congratulate her on her selection as Student 
of the Month; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
