SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 724
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Oscar David Garza for his courageous and faithful
military service on behalf of his country; and
WHEREAS, Oscar was born in Edinburg on March 30, 1947, to
Angelica and Hector Garza; and
WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1967
and was stationed at Lackland, Shepperd, Randolph, and Eglin air
force bases; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Oscar served with the aircraft
maintenance squadron at the Da Nang Air Force Base in Vietnam
during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, Oscar spent 18 years as a member of the
United States Army National Guard; he was assigned to the
149th Aviation Battalion in Austin, where he held several
different positions, including helicopter mechanic, aviation
quality control officer, and platoon leader; and
WHEREAS, For his exemplary service, Oscar received 14
different medals; notably, he was awarded the Vietnamese Service
Medal, two Texas Faithful Service Awards, and the United States
Air Force Commendation Medal; and
WHEREAS, After a long career in the military, Oscar Garza
retired as Chief Warrant Officer 2; and
WHEREAS, Oscar is a source of much pride to his family and
his community, and he deserves recognition for his outstanding
service to his country; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Oscar David Garza for his
dedicated and exemplary service to his nation as a member of
the armed forces and extend best wishes to him for the future;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
