SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 729

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure 
in recognizing Maud Gibbs, who has been selected to receive the 
Senior Citizen of the Year Award in Glen Rose; and
	WHEREAS, She will be presented the award for her lifetime 
of service to the Glen Rose community at a luncheon in her honor 
at the Senior Citizens' Center in Glen Rose on May 14, 2003; and
	WHEREAS, During her 54 years in the Glen Rose community, 
Maud Gibbs has been a dedicated and active volunteer in many 
organizations; for 10 years, she was the Democratic Party 
Chairman for Somervell County, and she is well known for her 
fund-raising activities to help children in need; and
	WHEREAS, She served as president of the Parent-Teacher 
Association and helped to establish a chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, 
a women's service organization; she is active in her church, 
where she serves as church hostess and Sunday School teacher, and
she is also known for her gracious entertaining and her warm and 
vibrant personality; and
	WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community, 
Mrs. Gibbs is recognized for her courage, her compassion for 
others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; 
at the age of 65, she began a career as the "Dinosaur Lady" 
at the Dinosaur Valley State Park gift shop; and
	WHEREAS, An exemplary role model for senior citizens, 
Maud Gibbs is a source of strength to others, and her 
accomplishments reflect her dedication to improving life for
others in her community; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, hereby commend Maud Gibbs for her exceptional 
achievements and extend congratulations to her on her selection 
as Senior Citizen of the Year; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
