SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 743
In Memory
of
Leonard Charles Neely
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Leonard Charles Neely, who
died April 1, 2003, at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, Leonard Neely was born in Sabinal on February 8, 1917,
to Fred and Annie Neely, and he moved to San Antonio in 1934; he
served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Neely worked at Kelly Air Force Base in
San Antonio for the United States Department of Defense for
34 years and worked for his son's company, San Antonio Steel
Company, until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Neely was a lifetime
member of First Baptist Church, and he was a 50-year member of
Anchor Lodge 424 AF & AM and a member of the Alzafar Shrine
Temple; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Mr. Neely gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and
valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Leonard Neely was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Leonard Charles Neely: his wife of 64 years,
Marguerite Nelson Neely; his daughters, Suzanne Barfield Neely
and Barbara Neely Hasslocher; his sons, L. Charles Neely, Jr.,
and his wife, Trisha, and John N. "Corky" Neely and his wife,
Susan; and his eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Leonard Charles Neely.
