SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 760
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Kenneth Earl Blaschke for his outstanding service to
his community, his church, and his profession; and
WHEREAS, Ken Blaschke has been an outstanding civic leader
in Smithville and a pharmacist for more than 50 years; he attended
Blinn College and graduated from The University of Texas with a
bachelor of science degree in pharmacy in 1953, and he served in
the United States Army as a pharmacy administrator from 1954 to
1955; and
WHEREAS, In 1956, he married Renee Dhossche, who has been
mayor of Smithville since 1998; the couple was blessed with three
children, and Mr. Blaschke has been active in the Smithville
Chamber of Commerce, the Smithville Lions Club, Little League,
the Smithville Optimist Club, Friends of MD Anderson Science
Park, and Saint Paul's Catholic Church; and
WHEREAS, The semiretired pharmacist worked for Partains'
Pharmacy and Haag Pharmacy in San Antonio, and he owned Ken's
Rexall Pharmacy in Smithville for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, A highly respected leader who generously devotes
time and energy to civic affairs, Ken served on the board of
directors for numerous organizations, including Centex Family
Services, the Bastrop County Headstart Program, and the
Smithville Independent School District; he is board chairman of
the Smithville Housing Authority, and he has been active with the
Smithville Police Association and the American Legion Post 1309;
and
WHEREAS, He has been a member of the board of directors for
the First State Bank in Smithville for 25 years, and he has been
active in the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Odin Assembly, and the
Knights of Columbus, Father O'Gallagher Council; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Ken has received numerous
accolades for his generous work in the community; he was named
Outstanding Citizen by the Smithville Chamber of Commerce, the
Boss of the Year by the Smithville Business and Professional
Women, the Knight of the Year by the Knights of Columbus, and
Outstanding Board Member by the Smithville Housing Authority;
the City of Smithville named a street for him, Ken Blaschke
Drive, in 1991; and
WHEREAS, An active gardener, he is a life member of Texas
Garden Clubs, Incorporated, and the National Garden Clubs,
Incorporated; his other interests include woodworking, traveling,
and spending time with his grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary Smithville citizen, Ken is a source
of strength to others, and his many accomplishments reflect his
dedication and his commitment to his fellowman; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Kenneth Earl Blaschke for
his exceptional achievements in his profession and for his
outstanding leadership in his community; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
