SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 771
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize W.W. Thorne, who is being honored with an Aldine Community Star Award at a luncheon on May 13, 2003; and WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Houston, Bill Thorne is highly respected for his outstanding work as an educator and a community leader in the City of Aldine; and WHEREAS, From 1950 to 1957, he served as a schoolteacher with the Aldine Independent School District; he was named superintendent of the district in 1958, a position he held until 1973; and WHEREAS, Mr. Thorne took his leadership skills to the field of higher education in 1973, when he founded and served as the first president of North Harris College; he led the college until 1982, and during the last six months of his tenure there, he served as president of the North Harris Montgomery Community College District; and WHEREAS, Mr. Thorne was also the founder and first executive director of the North Houston Association and the first executive director of the Harris County Toll Road Authority; and WHEREAS, Bill Thorne has played a major role in the betterment of the City of Aldine, and he deserves recognition for his hard work and his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend W.W. Thorne on his exceptional achievements and extend congratulations to him on his selection for an Aldine Community Star Award; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
