SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 779
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Tommy L. Wyatt, who is celebrating 30 years of outstanding service to The Villager newspaper and the Austin community; and WHEREAS, For 30 years The Villager newspaper has proudly provided coverage of our community activities, as well as community issue information that often was not readily available in other venues; and WHEREAS, Publisher Tommy Wyatt has worked with our community's youth, developing writers and future leaders; and WHEREAS, Kicking off this year's celebration is the establishment of the "Tommy L. Wyatt Scholarship," a $50,000 endowment fund at Huston-Tillotson College to be fulfilled in seven years; and WHEREAS, Portions of the proceeds from this year's Villager anniversary event will go into the scholarship endowment fund; and WHEREAS, The scholarship fund will be a lasting tribute to a man who has spent years working to develop future leaders through his youth brigade and future writers through his youth-written newspaper columns; and WHEREAS, The night of May 10, 2003, will be one of thanksgiving for and celebration of a newspaper and a publisher who has consistently worked for what he believes is in the public interest; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend and honor Tommy L. Wyatt for his many years of exceptional service and contributions to the Austin Community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Tommy L. Wyatt as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
