SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 790
In Memory
of
Everett Lawley, Jr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Everett Lawley, Jr., who died April 4, 2003, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Everett Lawley, Jr., was born in Gonzales on August 9, 1922, to Everett and Alma Dilworth Lawley; proud of his heritage, he was a direct descendant of David L. Kokernot, who fought in the Texas War of Independence; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lawley graduated from Alamo Heights High School and served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II; after his military service, he attended The University of Texas at Austin, earning a degree in geology, and then entered the petroleum business; and WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, Mr. Lawley gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and WHEREAS, Everett Lawley, Jr., was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Everett Lawley, Jr.: his wife, Wilhelmina Foss Lawley; his son, Everett Lawley III; his daughter, Sarah Lawley; his grandchildren, Brooks Lawley and Everett Lawley IV; his stepsons, Dan Costley, and his wife, Mary Alice, and Mike Costley, and his wife, Dorena; and his brother-in-law, Arthur Foss, and his wife, Jessie; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Everett Lawley, Jr. Wentworth ________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on May 9, 2003, by a rising vote. ________________________________ Secretary of the Senate ________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
