SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 791

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to join the citizens of Northeast Texas in celebrating the 
introduction of the first debutantes in the Northeast Texas 
Debutante Presentation on May 17, 2003; and
	WHEREAS, The three young ladies who will have the unique 
distinction of being the organization's first debutantes are 
Abisha Percharia Birdwell, Shaunsa Laquaya Jackson, and
Kamesha Lecole Mitchell; and
	WHEREAS, Debutante presentations have a long and 
distinguished tradition; these young ladies are being trained
in cultural, social, and civic responsibilities and will be 
recognized and presented to Northeast Texas society at a dinner 
and dance at Rains High School in Emory; and
	WHEREAS, Abisha Birdwell, a freshman at Jarvis Christian 
College in Hawkins, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Birdwell 
and the granddaughter of the late Mr. Hardy Thompson and
Mrs. Mabel Thompson and of Mr. Robert Birdwell and Willie Mae Nixon;
and
	WHEREAS, Shaunsa Jackson, a senior honor student at 
Beckville High School, is the daughter of Mrs. Brenda Reddic
and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. MacAuthur Jackson; and
	WHEREAS, Kamesha Mitchell, a freshman at Texas Woman's 
University, is the daughter of Linda Mitchell and the 
granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walker and of Ruby Shamlin; 
and
	WHEREAS, These exemplary and responsible young ladies will 
be the future social and civic leaders in their community; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby congratulate Abisha Percharia Birdwell, 
Shaunsa Laquaya Jackson, and Kamesha Lecole Mitchell on the 
special occasion of their debutante presentation; and, be it 
further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
