SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 798
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Esther Polland for her outstanding work as president of 
the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston on the occasion of the 
federation's annual meeting on May 28, 2003; and
	WHEREAS, During Esther's two-year presidency, the 
federation has been highly successful in meeting its goals to 
preserve and enrich Jewish life locally, nationally in Israel, 
and throughout the world; under her leadership, the organization 
has raised in excess of $20 million to support its charitable 
activities; and
	WHEREAS, Esther Polland has a strong history of leadership 
in the Jewish community through her work with the federation; she 
served as chairman of both the General Campaign and the Women's 
Division Campaign for two years, and she served as vice president 
of the federation for many years; and
	WHEREAS, She is a member of the Executive Committee of 
United Jewish Communities and serves as a board member of its 
National Women's Constituency; she also serves as president 
elect of The University of Texas Hillel in Austin; and
	WHEREAS, Highly respected as a gentle "giant" of a leader, 
Esther makes working for an important cause an enjoyable 
experience, and she makes others feel appreciated, even in hard 
times; and
	WHEREAS, Her achievements reflect her commitment to 
helping her fellowman, and communities throughout the world are 
better places due to her efforts; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, hereby commend Esther Polland for her 
exceptional leadership and congratulate her on her accomplishments
as president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston; and, be 
it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
