SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 805
WHEREAS, On June 30, 2003, Senior Corporal Gary Briley of
Palestine is retiring from the Department of Public Safety; and
WHEREAS, Born in Kilgore, Officer Briley graduated from
the Department of Public Safety training academy in 1974; his
first assignment was in Post, where he spent 13 years before
transferring to Palestine in May of 1987; and
WHEREAS, During his 29-year career with the Department of
Public Safety, Officer Briley has fulfilled numerous duties with
competence, honor, and distinction; in addition to being an
effective and highly respected supervisor, he has worked
accident scenes, apprehended criminals, and assisted the
Anderson County Sheriff's Office; and
WHEREAS, Officer Briley enjoys the love and support of his
wife, Sara, who is a teacher at Palestine Middle School; after
retirement, he plans to spend time with her traveling during the
summer months before settling on the next phase of his career;
and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating an uncompromising commitment to
duty, Officer Briley has served the Lone Star State for three
decades, providing his fellow citizens with protection and
security, and his notable tenure of service truly deserves
legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby congratulate Senior Corporal Gary Briley
on his retirement from the Department of Public Safety and extend
to him best wishes for success and happiness in the future; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for Senior Corporal Briley as an expression of high
regard by the Texas Senate.
