SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 806
WHEREAS, The Jacksonville City Council bid farewell to
a longtime public servant and friend when Harold Alexander
completed his 12th term and retired from public office; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Alexander was first elected to represent
District 1 on April 7, 1979, when he won with 75 percent of
the vote; the second African American to be elected to the
Jacksonville City Council, Mr. Alexander ran unopposed in eight
out of his 12 career elections and never received less than
three-quarters of the vote; and
WHEREAS, Widely respected and admired, Mr. Alexander
proved himself to be a staunch advocate for his constituents
and strong supporter of the Jacksonville Police Department,
consistently demonstrating the traits of fairness and integrity;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Alexander has made numerous significant
contributions to his hometown and stood firm in his support for
what he believed to be right, and his influence on Jacksonville
will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby honor Harold Alexander on his
retirement from the Jacksonville City Council and extend to him
warmest best wishes for future happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for Mr. Alexander as an expression of high regard by the
Texas Senate.
