SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 817
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
commend Alicia Zuniga for her 50 years of dedicated and
outstanding service to the schoolchildren of Laredo; and
WHEREAS, Alicia Zuniga received a bachelor's degree from
Texas A&I University in Kingsville, and she later earned a
master's degree; she began her illustrious educational career in
1953 as a teacher at the Don Tomas Sanchez Elementary School, and
she taught or served as a curriculum specialist at Ochoa, Milton,
D.D. Hachar, and Alma Pierce public elementary schools; and
WHEREAS, Following her retirement from the Laredo
Independent School District in 1993 after 40 years of loyal
service, she taught at Blessed Sacrament Elementary School, and
she is retiring from Saint Augustine Elementary School, where she
has taught prekindergarten for the past six years; and
WHEREAS, Alicia's five children inspired her to teach and
to further her own education; she looks back on her 50 years in
the classroom with deep gratitude for the opportunity to have
touched the lives of countless numbers of students, who remember
her with great fondness; and
WHEREAS, On May 16, 2003, Mrs. Zuniga is being recognized
by the people of Laredo for her exceptional service and her
commitment to the community's schoolchildren of Laredo; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Alicia Zuniga as an exemplary
educator and extend best wishes for the retirement years ahead;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
