SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 835
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Lisa Vavricka, who was named the top Gifted and Talented student in the nation as the recipient of the national Nicholas Green Award; and WHEREAS, The Nicholas Green Award is sponsored by the National Association for the Gifted and Talented and is given to students who excel in both academics and community service; Lisa received the statewide Green Award earlier in the year and will accept the national award at a special reception in Washington, D.C., in May; and WHEREAS, The straight-A, seventh-grade student at Bondy Intermediate School in the Pasadena Independent School District has won much acclaim for her academic achievements; she is a member of the academic pentathlon team and is the only student in the Pasadena Independent School District history to win the Best of Show at the science fair for three consecutive years; and WHEREAS, Lisa is an accomplished dancer, plays the violin, and sings in the Bondy choir; she participates in numerous community activities, including the Bayous and Lakes Trash Bash cleanup program, and she volunteers with Christian Helping Hands in Pearland; and WHEREAS, Lisa is a well-rounded student who is gifted in writing and aspires to be a scientist; she has won scholarships from the Optimists Club, Project Wisdom, and the Harris County Scholastic Writing Contest, and she is one of 10 girls nationwide spotlighted recently for community involvement and volunteerism by Girls' Life magazine; and WHEREAS, Lisa believes in working hard and doing her best, and her many achievements are a source of tremendous pride to her parents, her fellow students, and the faculty at Bondy Intermediate School; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Lisa Vavricka for her many accomplishments and extend congratulations to her for winning the Nicholas Green Award; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
