SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 839
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Dwight Boykins on his selection as a 2003 Minority 
Achiever by the Young Men's Christian Association of Greater 
Houston; and
	WHEREAS, An Achiever is one who is highly dedicated to 
his or her field and has ascended the ladder of opportunity by 
demonstrating abilities and skills in leadership, management, 
and supervision; Dwight received his award at the Young Men's 
Christian Association of Greater Houston's 2003 Awards Gala on 
March 21, 2003; and
	WHEREAS, Assistant vice president of governmental affairs 
and community relations at Texas Southern University, Dwight was 
promoted to his present position in September of 2000; he began 
his professional career in banking and then ventured into the 
profession he believes to be the most rewarding of all--higher 
education; and
	WHEREAS, Dwight was effective in facilitating the 
university's first federal appropriation, and he worked with 
the 77th Texas Legislature to restore programs and to bring a 
record amount of scholarship money to the university; and
	WHEREAS, Dwight is active in a number of civic, charitable, 
and professional associations, and he is a member of the Alpha 
Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated; he has been married for 
14 years to his lovely wife, Genora Boykins; and
	WHEREAS, Dwight Boykins's worthy accomplishments reflect 
his skill and leadership abilities; he has distinguished himself 


in his profession and is a role model and an inspiration to others 
in his community; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, hereby commend Dwight Boykins for his 
exceptional achievements and his valuable contributions to his 
community and extend congratulations to him on his selection for 
the 2003 Minority Achiever Award from the Young Men's Christian 
Association of Greater Houston; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 
for Dwight Boykins as an expression of high regard from the 
Texas Senate.
