SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 885
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the United States Armed Forces and observe May of 2003
as National Military Appreciation Month; and
WHEREAS, The citizens of the United States of America
enjoy the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,
freedoms that are enumerated in our Declaration of Independence,
the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights; and
WHEREAS, The members of the United States Armed Forces and
their families have made many sacrifices throughout our nation's
history to preserve these liberties for all Americans; and
WHEREAS, Many servicemen and servicewomen have proudly worn
the uniform of the United States Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force,
Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserves, and State Defense Forces;
and
WHEREAS, In 1999, the United States Congress passed a
resolution proclaiming May as National Military Appreciation
Month, calling on all Americans to remember those who gave their
lives in the defense of freedom and to honor the men and women of
all our armed services who have served and are now serving our
nation; and
WHEREAS, During May of 2003, Texans across the Lone Star State
are urged to pay tribute to these heroic Americans and to reflect
on the lasting legacy they have given us by protecting our nation's
unique freedoms; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby join all Americans in honoring our armed
forces during National Military Appreciation Month.
