SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 887
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dorothy Montgomery on the occasion of her retirement from Southwest Independent School District after 37 years of dedicated service; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Montgomery earned a bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University and a master's degree from Brite Divinity School; and WHEREAS, She began her teaching career in 1966 at Sun Valley Elementary School as a first-grade teacher and later taught fifth-grade and sixth-grade reading and language arts; and WHEREAS, After teaching at Sun Valley for 19 years, she moved to the district's Sixth-Grade Campus, where she taught until 1990; she then served as the Title I reading teacher at the Bob Hope Elementary School and is now winding up her last 13 years there as a fifth-grade reading and language arts teacher; and WHEREAS, Dorothy has devoted her life to the education of children; sharing her gifts and talents with them and encouraging them to become lifelong learners; and WHEREAS, Her commitment to her work has been an inspiration to her colleagues, and her presence among them, her wisdom, and her wise counsel will be missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Dorothy Montgomery for her outstanding and loyal service as a schoolteacher and extend best wishes to her for a happy and much-deserved retirement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
