SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 908
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Lisa Engeling for her more than 51 years of outstanding service to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department; and WHEREAS, Miss Lisa, as she is known by her colleagues, went to work for the department in 1952 and continues to arrive at the far Southeast Austin office each weekday eager and ready to work; she has rejected taking the retirement she long ago earned in favor of continuing to do something that she feels gives meaning to her life; and WHEREAS, A 1942 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, she married Gus Engeling on September 7, 1942, and the couple was blessed with a family of three children; and WHEREAS, Gus, a biologist, worked for the Texas Game and Fish Commission as a wildlife area manager, and after he was killed by a poacher, the agency head offered Miss Lisa a job; she gratefully accepted in order to support her young children; and WHEREAS, Officially, Miss Lisa is an accounting clerk for the wildlife division, processing applications and permits for public hunting on state lands, but unofficially she is "First National Bank-Postmaster-General Store and Walking File Cabinet"; she is the unchallenged expert on the agency archives, and her colleagues depend on her vast storehouse of knowledge to locate old files; and WHEREAS, Miss Lisa is known for her exceptional warmth and kindness toward her co-workers; she knows the names of all their children, and in the days before the electronic deposit of checks, she would gather her colleagues' paychecks on payday and deposit them at the Public Employees Credit Union and several banks; and WHEREAS, An energetic person who thrives by working, Miss Lisa is revered by her colleagues for her insight, her graciousness, and her generosity of spirit, and they count themselves fortunate to work alongside her; through the years they have benefited from her wisdom and wise counsel and been cheered by her infectious smile and by the candy she always keeps in a jar on her desk; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Lisa Engeling for her loyal service to the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
