SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 912
WHEREAS, On May 22, 2003, the City of Jasper is holding a
United States Military Family Blue Star Banner Ceremony at the
Jasper High School Fine Arts Auditorium to honor relatives of
local servicemen; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of this community event is to provide
support for families of members of the United States armed forces
who have been on active duty during wartime; by presenting each
of them with a Blue Star Service Banner, the people of Jasper are
acknowledging the sacrifices endured by these families, each of
which knows all too well the uncertainty that accompanies having
a loved one engaged in combat; and
WHEREAS, Organized through the efforts of the Jasper
County judge's office and the Jasper County Appraisal District,
the ceremony will also include a military honor guard, music, and
prayers of support and thanksgiving by ministers from Buna,
Kirbyville, and Jasper; and
WHEREAS, The families of American soldiers, whose military
duty has placed them in harm's way, are living proof of the poet
John Milton's observation "they also serve who only stand and
wait," and it is indeed appropriate that these relatives of our
fighting men and women, as well as those who support them,
receive special legislative recognition at this time; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend the families of military
personnel in the Jasper area and the citizens of Jasper who are
participating in the city's United States Military Family Blue
Star Banner Ceremony and extend to them sincere best wishes for a
successful and meaningful event.
