SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 920
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
recognizing Jeanette Pursley on her retirement after 40 years of
loyal service in the field of education in Texas; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Pursley is retiring as a second-grade
teacher at Merkel Elementary School, where she has taught since
1973; she previously taught at Lake View Elementary School in
San Angelo and at an elementary school in Garland; and
WHEREAS, She was born in Noodle, Texas, and earned a
bachelor's degree in elementary education from Abilene Christian
University in 1962; and
WHEREAS, She married Phillip Pursley, who became a Garland
High School head coach, in 1960; the couple has three sons, two of
whom are also in the teaching and coaching profession; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated and resourceful educator, Mrs. Pursley
instilled in her students an appreciation for hard work and a love
of learning; and
WHEREAS, She is well known for her dependability, her
professionalism, and the positive influence she has had on the
lives of her colleagues, her students, and their families; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Jeanette Pursley for her
contributions to the educational system of Texas and extend to
her best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
