SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 922
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dianne Thompson on the occasion of her nomination for
president of the National Federation of Republican Women; and
WHEREAS, Since January of 2002, Dianne has been serving as
the national organization's first vice president, the highest
position thus far to be held by a Texan; if she is successful in
her bid to become president, she will become the first Texan to
hold the prestigious position; and
WHEREAS, The National Federation of Republican Women
is one of the largest and most influential women's political
organizations in the country; the grassroots organization has
100,000 members and 1,800 unit clubs nationwide; founded in 1938,
it provides a collective and powerful force through which women
can advance in political access and participation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure with the Federation of
Republican Women, Dianne has held a number of leadership
positions in both the state and national organizations, and she
has received numerous awards for her contributions, including
10 Outstanding Republican Women awards and the Tribute to Women
award from the Texas Federation; and
WHEREAS, In the Texas Federation of Republican Women,
Dianne has served as president, first vice president,
vice president of bylaws, and vice president of Campaign
Activities; she was successful in implementing the state's
Campaign Management Schools and has served as a delegate to the
organization's conventions since the 1980s; and
WHEREAS, For the National Federation, Dianne has served as
fourth vice president, as chair of the Campaign Committee, and as
a member of the 1997 Nominating Committee; her responsibilities
have included serving as the Republican National Committee
coordinator for the Team Leader Program and helping to compose
policies and procedures for the National Federation's Executive
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Dianne has held leadership positions in more
than 25 campaigns both statewide and nationally, and she is an
exemplary model for all who wish to have a significant role in
the political process; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Dianne Thompson for her
outstanding contributions to the role of women in politics and
extend to her congratulations on her nomination as president of
the National Federation of Republican Women; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
