SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 949
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Chris Lopez, who has been named the permanent president of the class of 2003 of The University of Texas School of Law; and WHEREAS, A native of Queens, New York, Chris is the son of Mercedes and Eligio Lopez; and WHEREAS, Chris earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston and a master's degree from Yale University; and WHEREAS, On May 17, 2003, Chris participated in the Sunflower Ceremony at The University of Texas School of Law, which is the official graduation ceremony for law students; and WHEREAS, He looks forward to his position this fall with Weil, Gotshal and Manges, where he will specialize in bankruptcy law; and WHEREAS, Chris is well respected as a leader; he served as the section representative for the 2003 law school class and as a recruiter for the law school's diversity program; he is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; and WHEREAS, A fine scholar and an exemplary young citizen, Chris intends to serve the community as both an attorney and a public servant; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Chris Lopez on his selection as the permanent president of the class of 2003 of The University of Texas School of Law and on his graduation and extend best wishes to him for a successful and happy future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
