SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 970
In Memory
of
Sylvia Montez Perez
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Sylvia Montez Perez, who died May 21, 2003, at the age of 55; and WHEREAS, Sylvia was a 1966 graduate of Lanier High School, where she was head cheerleader; she later carved a successful and distinguished career in education in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, She was employed for 31 years with the San Antonio Independent School District and taught at Cooper, Tafolla, Mann, and Irving middle schools; she was a member of the San Antonio Retired Teachers' Association; and WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity, Sylvia gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and WHEREAS, Sylvia Perez lived her life to the fullest and was a devoted mother and grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Sylvia Montez Perez: her daughters and sons-in-law, RoxAnne Garza-Pariz and Lauro Garza and Rozlyn Perez and Angel Flores; her grandson, who was the sunshine of her life, Cristian Angel Flores; and her sister and brother-in-law, Yolanda and Rudy Almaguer; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sylvia Montez Perez.
