SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 971
In Memory
of
Jessica Zembala
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Jessica Zembala,
who died April 20, 2003, at the age of 32; and
WHEREAS, Jessica was born in Detroit, Michigan, and she
grew up in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Maryland; and
WHEREAS, She graduated from Roland Park Country School
in 1989, and she received a bachelor's degree in environmental
engineering from the University of Michigan; she had been a
professional engineer with Pape-Dawson and designed the Water
Reuse Pipeline for San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, For over three years, Jessica was the manager for
the San Antonio Water System Water Recycling Program, a $100
million citywide project to bring recycled water to San Antonio;
she had recently undertaken a position as project manager for the
redevelopment of the Pearl Brewery Property for Hixon
Properties; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Jessica developed many
positive relationships in the community; she was a participant
in Sustainable San Antonio, and she was a member of the American
Society of Civil Engineers; and
WHEREAS, Jessica was a creative, outgoing, and
well-rounded individual who enjoyed gardening, painting,
drawing, photography, long walks, and spending time with her
family and friends; and
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Jessica gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew her; and
WHEREAS, Jessica Zembala lived her life to the fullest and
was a devoted daughter and sister, and she leaves behind memories
that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Jessica Zembala: her mother, Nancy Brady, and
her husband, Joseph; her father, Dennis Zembala, and his wife,
Ann; her sisters, Meg Zembala and Stephane Norbert; her brother,
Andrew Zembala; her grandmother, Josephine Zembala; and her
fiance, Allen Sikes; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Jessica Zembala.
