SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 978
In Memory
of
Christopher Ryan Briones
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Amarillo and Austin in mourning the tragic loss of
Christopher Ryan Briones, who died December 17, 2002, at the age
of 21; and
WHEREAS, Ryan was born July 4, 1981, and grew up in
Amarillo; a young man of many talents, he began playing the piano
when he was in the third grade, and he played the viola in the
school orchestra; he was president of the National Honor Society
at Amarillo High School and was active in the Alpha Phi Omega
Community Service Fraternity at The University of Texas at Austin;
and
WHEREAS, As part of his community service for Alpha Phi
Omega, Ryan was co-coordinator of a highly successful blood drive
that was conducted after the tragic events of September 11, 2001;
Ryan had served over 100 service hours after pledging in the fall
of 2000; as a tribute to his life, the fraternity named the spring
of 2003 pledge class in his honor; and
WHEREAS, A young man of integrity and compassion, Ryan
gave unselfishly of his time to others; he was a devoted son,
brother, and grandson, and he leaves behind memories that will be
treasured forever by his family, his fraternity brothers, and his
many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Christopher Ryan Briones: his parents,
Marc and Gina Briones; his sister, Joy Briones; and his
grandparents, Eduvijes and Ildefonso and Monica Briones; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Christopher Ryan Briones.
